Mathews Museum to hold events next two Friday nights

The Mathews Historical Museum, 200 Main Street, will be open the next two Friday nights.

This week, a red-carpet movie night will show the film “Mathews County: Happy Homes and Fertile Farms on Smiling Waters,” a 1999 work by the late Eugene C. Hudgins. The museum opens at 6 p.m.

Next Friday, Feb. 17, the museum will hold a reception for members, starting at 6:30 p.m., for friends and volunteers, with a review of the organization’s seven years so far.

Director John Caramia will discuss the vision for the museum’s future, answer questions, and receive suggestions. Those planning to attend are asked to email MayfaireMathews@gmail.com. Refreshments will be served.

There is no charge for either event.

A release noted that the Mathews Historical Museum initiated a spring heritage event, May Faire, in 2017, and held subsequent festivals in 2018, 2019 and 2022. The Covid pandemic forced cancellation for two years.
