Mathews, Middlesex subject of cultural historic resources survey

Data Investigations LLC of Gloucester, Longwood University, and Cultural Resources Analysts Inc. of Richmond have all been contracted by the Virginia Department of Historic Resources to conduct surveys of cultural historic resources in Mathews and Middlesex counties.

The work is being funded by a National Park Service Hurricane Sandy Disaster Assistance Grant for Historic Properties that was awarded to DHR in 2014.

In order to increase awareness about the location and significance of archaeological sites in the counties and aid in their protection, archaeologists from Longwood University will conduct a reconnaissance-level archaeological survey of portions of the Mathews and Middlesex county shorelines, according to a DHR press release.
