Mathews May Faire returns May 5

May Faire, an event harkening back to spring celebrations of the past, will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, in and around the Mathews court green. This year’s event—the second year for the festival sponsored by the Mathews County Historical Museum—will highlight what was unique about Mathews County in the 1950s. A showcase of this year’s May Faire will be an antique car show, featuring local vehicles from the 1950s and ’60s on Court Street and Brickbat Road. “For a lasting memory, have your picture taken with Elvis, Chuck Berry, Marilyn Monroe or Bubba,” said event chairperson Nancy Twigg. She said participants will also enjoy a variety of music with appearances by Clayton Ware, Buddy Waymack, Franklin “Jay” Jarvis, Thomas Hunter Middle School students Caleb Burford and Ashley Cummings, and the Ebenezer Church Men’s Chorus.
