The Mathews Market Days Committee’s plea for help was answered last week, and former chair Hugh Turner has confirmed that there will, indeed, be a festival this year.
Turner said when he arrived for the meeting last Thursday, there were people waiting at the door to get in, and by the time the meeting began, nearly 30 people were there. All the functions that need to be served for the annual festival now have volunteers, said Turner, including much-needed extra help in the children’s area and for the car show.
“It was a great turnout,” said Turner.
On top of that, four people have offered to serve in the chairman’s position, two as co-chairs, said Turner. Because it’s a position that’s voted on by the executive board, he said a decision will be made after the board considers each person’s past experience in handling large-scale operations such as a festival.
