Mathews Market Days crowds estimated at 10,000

Clear, sunny skies helped make this year’s Mathews Market Days a success. The festival’s public relations chair Trudy Flippin estimated that up to 10,000 people attended on Friday and Saturday.

The crowds on the court green appeared to be thinner than during some past Market Days, but Flippin said that could have been because people were participating in activities and visiting booths throughout downtown Mathews.

In any event, Flippin said craft and food vendors seemed pleased and reported that sales went well.

"There were always people strolling through," she said. "I think people are spreading this out over two days now because there’s so much to see and participate in."

Court Street, where food vendors set up their booths, was packed during lunch time, she said.
