Mathews County’s roads were filled with runners Saturday morning for the fourth annual Mathews Marathon, which started and ended in Mathews Court House. The event, sponsored by the Mathews Outdoor Club, included a 26.2-mile marathon, 13.1-mile half-marathon, and team relay marathon, and attracted 138 runners. Winners, from left, were Christian Toro, 38, marathon winner, 3:28.21.1; Alex Sharff, 21, first female, 3:36.53.2; Andrew Greve, 19, half-marathon winner, 1:21.52.5; and Anna Strait, 64, first female half-marathoner, 1:47.03.5. Team Sigma Skibidi won the marathon relay. Event participants and family members were treated to a “Carbo Load” pasta dinner on Friday afternoon courtesy of the Mathews YMCA and Mathews Women’s Giving Circle.
