Mathews man dies of accident injuries

A Mathews man died Sunday after being severely injured in a single-vehicle accident in Gloucester early Friday morning.

Virginia State Police 1st Sgt. Greg Mathias said Rusty Shane Todd, 24, of Mathews was driving a two-door, 2013 Scion northbound on Main Street when he ran off the left side of the road.

Mathias said Todd over-corrected and ran off the right side of Main Street, striking the embankment at the intersection with T.C. Walker Road. The accident occurred at about 1:45 a.m.

Mathias said Todd, who was restrained, was the only occupant of the vehicle. He was transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center where he died of his injuries on Sunday.

This is the third traffic fatality in Gloucester in 2015. ...
