Mathews man dies in motorcycle accident on I-64

A Mathews man died Sunday as a result of injuries he sustained in a traffic accident on Interstate 64 in which a Hampton woman was charged with DUI. 

State police spokesman Sgt. Michelle Anaya said a trooper on routine patrol found a man, later identified as Jonathan Wayne Verner of New Point, in the roadway suffering from life-threatening injuries on I-64 at Mercury Blvd. just after 5 a.m. Saturday. Verner was on eastbound 64, along with a 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Anaya said Verner, 32, had sustained severe trauma to his body and was transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center. A witness contacted state police and advised they were following a possible vehicle that struck the motorcycle on the interstate.

Hampton police located the vehicle and its driver at the 7-Eleven on Aberdeen Road, Anaya said, and a trooper responded. The driver was identified as Amber Dawn Davidson of Hampton, who was driving a 2009 Pontiac sedan.
