Mathews makes Jan. 21 a regular school day

To make up the instructional day lost in Mathews County Public Schools in the wake of Tropical Storm Michael, the school board has added Monday, Jan. 21, 2019, as a regular school day.

The school board approved the change to its 2018-2019 calendar during its Oct. 16 meeting in the Mathews High School media center.

Mathews schools were initially scheduled to be closed on Jan. 21 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

This is the second time the school board has amended its 2018-2019 calendar. At the September meeting, the board approved converting two teacher workdays—Oct. 8 and Nov. 5—to regular school days after the division had lost four days earlier that month in anticipation of Hurricane Florence. ...
