Mathews Main Street work progressing quickly

Work on the Mathews Main Street renovation project has been progressing quickly over the past few weeks, Mathews Planning and Zoning Director Thomas Jenkins said Friday.

Concrete was poured last Wednesday for the sidewalks in front of Richardson’s Café, IsaBell Horsley Real Estate and Put-In-Creek Carvings, and by Thursday workmen were laying brick for decorative insets in the sidewalks.

All of the drainage for the area north of Church Street on the west side of Main Street has been completed, said Jenkins, but the drain lines on the east side between the Bay School and Maple Avenue still need to be installed, along with a small lawn drain in front of the former Dollar General store.

Jenkins said that work on the project will stop this weekend to accommodate Mathews Market Days.
