Mathews Main Street work picks up

After a number of delays, the Mathews Main Street renovation project is moving along quickly. On Monday morning, curbs were being installed in front of the Halcyon Building, and concrete was scheduled to be poured later that day at the new bump-out at the corner of Brickbat Road and Main Street.

Mathews County Planning and Zoning Director Thomas Jenkins said that all the storm drain upgrades on the western side of Main Street south of Church Street had finally been completed and that the sidewalks there should be finished by early August.

The next part of the project will be pipe work outside the entrance to Richardson’s at the corner of Main and Church, which will require that the intersection be closed for around two weeks, said Jenkins. During that time, traffic will be rerouted to Brickbat Road.
