Mathews Library’s expansion project on track

Plans to expand Mathews Memorial Library are on track, and a new goal has been added to the project.

 

Maree Morgan, president of Friends of the Mathews Memorial Library, announced to the library’s board of trustees Tuesday afternoon that the organization plans to create a rear courtyard that will tie together the existing library, the addition in the former Radio Shack building, and the Mathews Visitor and Information Center.

 

The plan calls for a trellised entry on the northeastern side of the building to match the one that covers the walkway to the entry into the youth wing. HVAC systems would be moved away from the building and placed behind a masonry wall to buffer the noise, said Morgan, and pavers would carry foot traffic from two rear library entrances to the historic Thomas James Store and the rear entrance of the visitor center.
