Mathews Library to observe Black History Month

Mathews Memorial Library will celebrate Black History Month, an annual recognition of contributions by African Americans, with an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, at the library on Main Street in Mathews.

The open house will explore and celebrate a heritage rich in art, music, and literature, said a press release from Library Director Bette Dillehay. Several exhibits and activities for all ages to enjoy will be featured, including games, crafts, and refreshments.

“This event offers an opportunity to share information about our cultures and shared history, with special emphasis on the heritage shared by members of the Mathews community,” said Dillehay.

Meanwhile, she said, members of the library’s staff are engaged in creating a setting to excite and inspire those who visit the library in the coming month.
