Mathews Library offers help to parents during pandemic

Help for parents who are assisting their children with schoolwork during the pandemic will be available at Mathews Memorial Library beginning in September.

Library Director Bette Dillehay said that POMS (Parents of Mathews Students) will have its first meeting at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3, and will meet weekly thereafter. The group, which will be limited in number according toCOVID-19 guidelines and available space, is intended to provide a welcoming setting for parents “to obtain support and gain confidence as they face this challenge.”

“POMS will empower and encourage and allow for sharing problems and concerns,” said Dillehay.

During the meetings, library staff will be available to interact with children who accompany their parents, she said, and arrangements can be made for subject-area-specific tutors to assist children with their work at no cost.
