Mathews July 4th fireworks said to be among best in region

Mathews County’s annual July 4 fireworks display can stack up to any other show in the region, boasted Mathews County Fireworks Committee spokesperson Charles Ingram.

This year’s display will begin at dusk, or around 9 o’clock, on Monday at Mathews High School. Tuesday is set aside as a rain date.

“If the weather permits, we’re going to have a splendid fireworks show,” Ingram said.

Shuttle buses will run from Thomas Hunter Middle School to the high school beginning around 7 p.m. and will continue to run until the fireworks show begins. The free shuttle will then be available after the show to take spectators back to their cars at THMS.

Once at the high school, visitors can enjoy concessions that will be for sale by members of the Piankatank Ruritan Club. Also, local DJ Tommy Eriksen will provide musical entertainment leading up to the show.
