Mathews High School looking for new AD/football coach

A little more than a week before pre-season football practices are set to begin, Mathews High School is looking for a new head varsity football coach, as well as an athletic director.

The Mathews County School Board accepted the resignation of Paul White as MHS athletic director during Tuesday’s monthly meeting in the school’s media center. White had also been set to return as varsity football coach prior to his resignation.

However, superintendent of schools Nancy Welch said she expects to have the coaching and AD positions filled in time for the start of the season. She said she has received a good deal of interest in the position, both internally and from outside the school division, and will be conducting interviews today.

She said the appointment can be made immediately and then approved retroactively by the school board at its Aug. 21 meeting.
