The Mathews Cross Country Team had its first meet of the season last Wednesday, Sept. 4, at Gloucester’s Beaverdam Park against Washington and Lee, Northumberland, Essex, and King William.

The girls’ team won the meet with a perfect shutout score of 15 points. Adelle Hudgins, who is a JV runner, came in first place with a time of 25:29. Abbie Hudgins followed closely behind in 25:33. Avery Betz ran a 25:56, followed by Zoe Goodwin (27:05), Emily Rosadino (JV) (27:07), Melody Smith (27:09), Caroline Bray (27:14), Zoe Camp (JV) (28:14), Isabella Daniels (JV) (30:28) and Alexis Deagle (30:51).

The boys’ team also won the meet with a total of 18 points. Cameron Stearns took first place with a time of 18:22, Dennis Wood (18:57), followed closely by Josh Rosadino (18:58), Isaiah Bivins (19:50), Dylan White (21:44), Carson Brown (22:14), Brian Robinson (24:31), Henry Hos-
