Mathews girls defeat Middlesex in volleyball

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team picked up a conference win last Thurday, defeating the visiting Middlesex Chargers three sets to one. The win improves the Lady Devils’ record to 10-2 overall; 3-0 in conference play.

Mathews easily won the first set, 25-9, before losing the second, 25-22,  and winning the final two sets, 25-12 and 25-15.

Leading the team in kills was Anne Stewart with 14. Hallie Duncan followed with seven, Brittany Mitchem with six, and Belle Massimino with four. Keely Crittenden led in digs with 12 followed by Madison South with seven, Massimino and Josey Bauby with six each and Victoria Bing with four. Duncan, Massimino and Emily Sorey each served three aces, Stewart added a solo block, and South had 40 assists.

The Lady Devils were scheduled to travel to Carver Academy on Tuesday but the game was postponed. They host Gloucester tonight at 6.
