Mathews girls advance to post-season play

The Mathews High School varsity girls’ basketball team completed its undefeated run through the Tidewater District with a convincing 64-12 victory over King and Queen last week.

With last Thursday’s win, the Lady Blue Devils clinched the regular season championship and set their sights on the district tournament and regional play.

Starting and honoring its five seniors, Mathews jumped on the Lady Tigers from the opening tipoff. Every player that was dressed for the game contributed points, led by Kaitlin Eriksen with 16 and Lindsey Brown with 10 points. Other top scorers were Whitney Eriksen with seven, Hannah Rowe with six and Mackenzie Moughon with five points. Jessie Nelson and Shelby Ware added four each followed by Megan Zeller and Samera Thomas who chipped in three points each. Rounding out the scoring were Angela Sale and Sydney Morgan with two points apiece.
