Mathews FIRST Robotics kicks off 2016 season

The Mathews FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Team 1137, also known as Rocket Sauce, started its 2016 season last weekend by attending the worldwide kickoff at the Jefferson National Lab in Newport News.

This year’s game is called “FIRST STRONGHOLD” and consists of alliances of three robots on a quest to breach their opponents’ fortifications, weaken their tower with boulders, and capture their tower. When capture is successful, their flag is raised on the opposing tower and more points are earned. The alliance with the highest score at the end of the quest wins.

The team meets every day after school from 3-5 p.m. at team headquarters behind the Mathews High School by the preschool playground; new members are welcome. For students wishing to join, contact team coach Larry Brown at 725-5839 or info@firstteam1137.com.
