Mathews fireworks

Mathews residents and guests will be treated once again this year to what has become known as one of the best fireworks displays in the region.
The Mathews Fireworks Committee will set off the free show after dusk Tuesday from the Mathews High School grounds, and the event will include much more than just the light show. A rain date has been scheduled for the following day, July 5.
Committee member Jeannie Elliott said doors will open to the MHS football stadium, where people can best view the fireworks, at 6:30 p.m. Music there will be provided by local DJ Tommy Eriksen leading up to the show. The Piankatank Ruritan Club will also sell food, drinks and homemade ice cream.
“Last year, the homemade ice cream was a big success,” Elliott said. “They said they are going to have twice as much as last year.”
