The 2021 Mathews Farmers’ Market will open at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 3, on the court green along Court Street in Mathews.

Vendors are lined up to be part of the annual seasonal market, which is sponsored by Mathews Main Street and managed by Kayla Massengill of Gloucester, said a press release from Main Street Chair Bette Dillehay.

“It will be a perfect time to pick up that special item to help in celebrating Easter Sunday, which occurs the next day,” she said.

Last year’s market was a challenge for vendors, said Dillehay, but vendors and supporters stepped up to the challenge, and the market opened last April, as scheduled.

“Let’s face it,” she said. “Opening and operating almost anything was a challenge in 2020. But each week found a determined and enthusiastic group of individuals stationed at their booths with items they had ‘made, baked or grown.’”

The challenges continue this year, as well, said Dillehay, but participants are no less enthusiastic.
