Mathews Farmers’ Market opens for season April 1

The Mathews Farmers’ Market will open for its 30th season at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, on the Mathews historic court green.
The market will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday through the end of October, except for Mathews Market Days on Sept. 9.
The vendors are local farmers, bakers and artisans, said a press release. They invite residents and visitors to drop by and shop for products they “make, bake or grow,” which is the motto of the market. Products include breads and baked goods, honey, eggs, freshly picked vegetables, meats, fruits and flowers (cut and potted), and nursery plants. Yarns, jewelry, soaps and beauty products, walking sticks and wreaths are also available for sale.
The market is also a place to gather and learn about the Mathews community and the many volunteer opportunities it provides, said the release. There is periodic musical entertainment, and a community space is available each week for different civic groups, churches and other ...
