Mathews County’s website earns top marks for transparency

Mathews County has joined the ranks of the city of Arlington, York County and Gloucester in receiving an A+ rating for transparency on its website, www.co.mathews.va.us.

The Sunshine Review, a collaborative online almanac that rates over 5,000 local government websites, reviewed Mathews County’s website and gave it a high rating just a couple of weeks after Gloucester County received its high marks.

Julie Kaylor, assistant to the county administrator in Mathews, said the top ranking is thanks to a group effort of county employees.

As with Gloucester, Kaylor said each department tries to maintain responsibility for updating the content of its own section of the county’s website. The county administration and planning offices tend to be updated the most, she said, as those sections continuously post the latest meeting minutes and updated calendars.
