Mathews Christmas Store set to serve more than 600 this year

The Mathews County Christmas Store, which started over 40 years ago with big dreams and the tireless energy of a few dedicated souls, has grown over the past four decades into a community-wide outpouring of love, commitment and support for Mathews families in need.

The annual event, hosted in the YMCA/Boys & Girls Club gymnasium, will be held on Dec. 9 and 10 this year, serving over 600 members of the community, said a press release. Cash donations, gift items, and volunteers are still needed.

Adult residents participate in the Christmas Store, while children participate in the Elf Shoppe, which allows them to shop for their parents or guardians, said the release. Participants are able to shop at no cost for brand-new housewares, small electronics, linens, toys and bikes, clothing, personal products, beauty products and holiday decorations.
