Mathews ceremonies honor men and women who kept the lights burning

Attending a ceremony on Saturday at Smither Memorial Cemetery in Hudgins to honor Windmill Point lighthouse keeper William Edward “Eddie” Davis (1861-1932), a Mathews native, were, above from left, Paul Frankie of Newport News, Barbara Whitaker of Gloucester Point, Susan Powell of Weems, and Michael Frankie of Newport News. Windmill Point lighthouse keeper William Edward “Eddie” Davis (1861-1932), a Mathews native, was remembered by the Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the U.S. Lighthouse Society for his 23 years of service in a ceremony on Saturday at H.C. Smither Memorial Cemetery at Hudgins. It was one of six ceremonies held on Saturday at cemeteries in Mathews. A USLHS grave marker and flag was placed at each gravesite.
