Mathews candidates take part in pair of forums

A pair of forums last Thursday gave Mathews supervisor and school board candidates a chance to share their views with the public on a range of issues affecting county residents. Mathews voters will get one more look at the candidates Thursday, Oct. 28 at a forum on Gwynn’s Island.

The first of the two forums last Thursday, held in the morning at Mathews Memorial Library and sponsored by the Mathews County Resources Council, had a hybrid setup, with candidates in person at the library while the public joined the proceedings via the Zoom and Facebook platforms. It was moderated by Carroll Jackson. Approximately 45 people were in attendance, not counting the candidates, moderator, and library staff.

An in-person forum held that evening at the Piankatank Ruritan Club gave the public a chance to meet the candidates face-to-face. It was moderated by Cheryl Dale. Not counting the moderator and candidates, around 80 were in attendance.
