The Mathews Indoor Track and Field teams traveled to the Tolsma Track Center in Lynchburg last Wednesday and Thursday to compete in the 1A/2A Indoor State Track and Field Championships. The Blue Devils capped off a strong indoor season with many stellar performances.

The most notable performance was the boys’ 4x800m relay team (Justin Adams, Jalen Thomas, Jordan Jenkins and Marcus Robinson) which placed second overall, beating the school record by 12 seconds with a time of 8:52.

For the girls, Casey Kelly and Andie Schlosshan placed 14th and 16th in the shot put with throws of 30’10” and 30’02”, respectively, Rileigh Betz placed 11th in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 6:05, and the girls 4x800m relay team (Maddy Hobert, Lizzie Stokes, Lauren Bland and Tiffany Condron) placed 15th with a season-best time of 12:01.
