Mathews boys defeat Chargers, 80-66

The Mathews High School varsity boys’ basketball team followed up on its victory over King William two weeks ago with a loss against Washington and Lee and a win against Middlesex, bringing the team’s overall record to six wins and 13 losses.

Deondre Foster was the top scoring player in the team’s last two games, scoring 19 points against Washington and Lee and 30 points against Middlesex. Dayshon Williamson scored 10 points against Washington and Lee, making him second in scoring for the game. The top two scoring players for Washington and Lee were Jeremy Turner, with 14 points, and Tre Brown, with 12 points.

The Blue Devils struggled in the first half, finishing the second quarter trailing Washington and Lee, 35-22. Coming back after halftime, the Blue Devils had a burst of energy, securing 15 points in the third quarter against Washington and Lee’s seven, but fell again in the fourth quarter, finishing the game with a 65-53 loss.
