The Mathews County Board of Supervisors met for a lengthy closed session last Thursday, after which members returned to open session and voted to adopt a new employment agreement with County Administrator Ramona Wilson. The agreement terminates two prior agreements, dated March 9, 2022 and Dec. 13, 2023.
Among the provisions in the new agreement are a 3 percent raise for a total base salary of $168,662.50 and a reduction in severance pay from three years of current salary to 12 months of current salary in the event the county were to decide to terminate her contract without cause. If her contract were to be terminated for cause, she would have no right to severance pay.
The agreement states that it is the desire of the board to accomplish five things with the contract: Induce Wilson to remain in the county’s employment, “make possible full work productivity by setting clear expectations related to her annual goals and other responsibilities,” “act as a deterrent against malfeasance or ...
