Mathews BOS adopts proclamation honoring Marie Walls

The late Marie Walls, commonwealth’s attorney for Mathews County, who died on Feb. 10, was on everyone’s mind during the board of supervisors meeting held last Thursday evening in the historic courthouse. At the beginning of the meeting, chairman Tom Bowen called for a moment of silence to remember her, as well as the late Doug Wilton, a longtime planning commission member who died on Feb. 5. Board members then adopted a proclamation honoring Walls for her “commitment to justice, the rule of law, and to the protection of victims of crime, earning the respect of her colleagues, the courts, law enforcement, and the community she so faithfully served” and expressing “deep appreciation and heartfelt gratitude for the exemplary public service” rendered by Walls. It was announced that a service for Walls will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church on Lovers Lane in Mathews.
