Mathews boards to consider cell phone tower application

The Mathews County Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission will hold a joint public hearing Tuesday on an application for a conditional use permit to install a telecommunications tower at 118 Ewellville Lane in Dutton. The property is zoned rural.

Grain Communications of Sarasota, Fla. filed the application. The company seeks to tear down the existing 505-foot tower on the property and build a replacement tower 30 feet further south.

According to the report from the Mathews Department of Planning, Zoning and Wetlands, one neighbor, Steven Kemp, has objected to the project. Planning director John Shaw has recommended approval.

After the public hearing, the planning commission will hold its regular meeting. Subjects under discussion will be aquaculture definition and use regulations and the proposed delineation of the Village Mixed Use District.
