Mathews board to ask court to amend Eubank court order

Mathews supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday night to petition Mathews Circuit Court to amend the court order that required that Mark and Candy Eubank remove parts of their waterfront cottage on Gwynn’s Island.

In July, the board voted to write a letter of apology to the couple for actions the county took under previous administrations that resulted in a judge’s order to remove the structures. Board members also voted to obtain quotes on the cost of replacing the structures.

During Tuesday night’s meeting in the historic courthouse, County Administrator Ramona Wilson provided the board with the four quotes she had received to replace the structures, ranging from a low of $10,086.96 to a high of $22,842.

No vote was taken to select a contractor, but the matter was discussed extensively by Mathews Board of Supervisors’ chairman Dave Jones during the supervisors’ comments portion of the meeting.
