The Mathews County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Monday night to launch an investigation into a breach of confidentiality that occurred recently regarding an applicant to the county’s building official position.
Supervisor Mike Rowe made a statement after a reconvened closed session Monday night. The session was continued from the Jan. 28 meeting in order for the board to resume its review of applicants.
Rowe said it had come to his attention that there had been talk on the internet and elsewhere that privileged information from the first meeting had been shared with the public.
“That’s not a good thing,” he said. “All board members, and whoever, need to be very cognizant of what information they let out and put out there because it could hurt some of the people that their information is confidential and does not need to be out there in public.”
