Mathews board earns VSBA designation

The Mathews County School Board and Superintendent of Schools Nancy Welch recently earned the designation of a VSBA Master Board.

The school division’s governance team attended four sessions totaling more than 25 hours of professional development beginning in March and ending on Aug. 10. The discussions, facilitated by staff of the Virginia School Boards Association, focused on team building, improving communication, listening and board building behaviors.

“I would like to thank my school board colleagues and Superintendent Nancy Welch for their willingness and commitment to become a Master Board,” said school board chair Linda Hodges. “This program solidifies our board’s commitment to the education of our students in Mathews County.”

“To become a Master Board takes time, energy, and a deep understanding of good board governance,” said VSBA Executive Director Gina Patterson. “I would like to congratulate the Mathews County Governance Team for this great accomplishment.”
