Mathews County School Board members ​Virginia Richards, Linda Hodges, Jen Little, John Persinger and Lanell Jarvis, along with school board members-elect Jeanice Sadler and John Priest and superintendent of schools Nancy Welch took part in the Virginia School Boards Association 2015 Annual Convention held on Nov. 18-20 in Williamsburg.

Approximately 1,000 school governance leaders attended the convention, participating in more than 50 workshops, clinics and critical issues sessions focused on topics such as boardsmanship, developing local capacity, school law, school construction, virtual/blended learning, advocacy, school improvement, educational trends, and energy/sustainability practices.

In addition, Mathews High School senior Ryann Smith, the board’s student liaison, took part in the Workshop for Student School Board Representatives, which was held on Nov. 19 in conjunction with the VSBA convention. ...
