Mathews blood drive

Fifty three units were collected during an American Red Cross bloodmobile visit on Sept. 14 at the Piankatank Ruritan Club, Hudgins. In the drive, sponsored by Spring Hill Baptist Church at Cobbs Creek, 59 potential donors showed up; nine were deferred and three were unable to give a complete donation. Six of the donors were able to give Double Red donations. First-time donors at the drive were Joshua Stearns, Randoulph Fields and Julia Campbell, while Kathy Kanady made her first donation at a Mathews drive. Gallon pins were awarded to Linden Barrick, William Stearns (one gallon), Liz Scribe (six gallons), Paul Paquet (seven gallons), Cathy Owens (14 gallons) and Brenda Moore (20 gallons). Moore is shown in photo at right (seated) with Spring Hill Baptist volunteers Burma Roddy (at left) and Pearl Sadler. The next Mathews drive will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 7.
