Mathews blood drive

The American Red Cross Mathews community blood drive was held on Dec. 5 at the Piankatank Ruritan Club building in Hudgins, resulting in the collection of 68 units, according to Nan Cross. A total of 69 potential donors took part; four were deferred for various medical reasons and three were unable to give a sufficient quantity. However, they were offset by 13 donors who provided double-red donations. Six made their first donation in Mathews: James Burcher (left), new Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Daniel (right) and Carolyn Lynch, James Nolan, Laura Simpson, Jane Werner. Gallon pins were given to Bill Crowe (three gallons) and Kathryn Putt and Raymond Fleischer (five gallons).
