Mathews Big League team finishes fifth in state

The Mathews Big League team competed in the state tournament in July in Pound, placing fifth in the competition after losing the first game to the eventual state runners-up from Honaker.

The boys played solid defensively and hit the ball well at times. They came back from a 7-0 deficit in game two against Fairfax to win, 10-9. Mathews represented District 15 Little League in the competition. The All-Star team from Woodbridge went on to win the state title.

The Mathews team received a great deal of community support to help with the trip to Pound, including help from White Dog Inn, North Star Market and Lynne’s Family Restaurant, which hosted a benefit dinner for the team.
