Mathews B&G Club to hold open house next Wednesday

The Mathews Boys & Girls Club, located on Church Street across from Thomas Hunter Middle School, will hold an open house from 4-6:30 p.m. next Wednesday, May 17, according to Unit Director Angela Sale.

The event will give residents a chance to see what happens every day at the club that has become a resource to youth and families in the community, Sale said. Hal Smith, CEO and president of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula, and board members will be present to explain the organization’s mission and values imparted to the youth through various programs.

Club members will give tours of the facility while sharing their personal experiences about how membership has impacted their lives. Visitors will get to sample “a day in the life” of club youth focusing on leadership skills, physical education, STEM experiences and programs for improved self-esteem—Passport to Manhood for the boys and Smart Girls for girls ages 9-13 years old, Sale said. ...
