Mathews beautification project seeks support

While it might be difficult to find ways to enhance the natural beauty of Mathews County, the late Betsy and Dwight Ambach did just that with the hanging flower baskets they annually provided for downtown Mathews for over a decade.Although the Ambachs have passed away, and their successors in the effort, Jim and Amanda Taylor, are moving away, the community can still support the annual beautification project by donating to the recently-established Main Street Beautification Fund.

Mathews Main Street Committee chair Bette Dillehay said that in the summer of 2008, the Ambachs, longtime residents of the Aldendale neighborhood on Horn Harbor, generously funded the placement of floral hanging baskets created by Tatterson Greenhouses, then at Port Haywood, around the historic courthouse complex.Recognizing the beauty and pleasure that the Ambach investment provided, Jim and Amanda Taylor joined their efforts and they, too, donated funds which allowed for the expansion of the program to i...
