Mathews beats 6A Woodside 3-0

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team improved to 3-0 on the season by defeating 6A Woodside High School Tuesday night.

MHS defeated the visiting Wolverines in straight sets by scores of 25-23, 28-26 and 25-21. The Lady Devils worked hard as a team to get the job done. After leading most of the first set, if only by a few points, MHS trailed, 17-14, in the second, but fought its way back and never gave up eventually earning the 28-point set victory.

The third and final set found the Devils trailing at many times as well. After a back-and-forth exchanging of points for much of the set, Mathews surged ahead to a 20-15 lead and seemed to be coasting to the finish. Woodside, however, did not give up and was able to come to within two points, 23-21, before Mathews finally put the Wolverines away.

Leading the night in kills for MHS was Victoria Bing with 10, Anne Stewart with five, and Hallie Duncan and Madisyn Jackson with three each.
