Mathews was recently accepted into the Virginia Main Street program as an Exploring Main Street community, affording grant opportunities and resources to help support commercial development in downtown Mathews.Virginia Main Street is a downtown revitalization program under the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development, said a press release. The designation offers localities a variety of trainings, technical assistance, and access to downtown revitalization resources and materials, as well as the benefit of being part of a larger network of downtowns dedicated to revitalization. “We are honored to be part of this nationally recognized program,” said Stan Grice, chair of Mathews Main Street. “Virginia Main Street’s support will help accelerate efforts to strengthen downtown Mathews and enhance economic vitality throughout the county.
