Mathews 2-0 after 37-12 win over Raiders

The week before, Chris Davis scored a touchdown on the opening kickoff to set the tone for that game. On the first play from scrimmage Friday, it was Jared Inge who would put Mathews on the path to victory.

On Rappahannock’s first snap, the senior defensive end astutely scooped up a lateral pass and took it 37 yards for the score as the Mathews varsity football team defeated the visiting Raiders, 37-12, to boost the Devils’ record to 2-0.

Mathews led throughout Friday’s game, although Rappahannock did put together a solid drive late in the first quarter that culminated in a 1-yard touchdown run by running back William Hawkins. The Raiders wouldn’t return to the Blue Devil end zone until less than a minute left to play, long after head coach Paul White began putting in his second-string players.
