Mason appointed to school board

The Mathews County School Board is now back to full strength.

A month after accepting the resignation of member Jen Little, the remaining four members voted Tuesday night to approve the interim appointment of Melissa F. Mason of North to the board for the remainder of 2017.

School board members had to choose from six candidates who applied for the vacant seat. “We had such a great group of individuals” come forward to seek the interim appointment, school board member John Priest said, in making the motion to appoint Mason.

A county native and 1982 graduate of Mathews High School, Mason serves as associate minister at Antioch Baptist Church, Susan.

Her home church is Emmaus Baptist, North, where she was licensed and ordained.

She graduated from Virginia Union University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and earned an MBA from Averett University. She also went on to earn a Master of Divinity degree from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology...
