MARYUS ‘MIKE’ HOGGE JR.

Maryus “Mike” Hogge Jr., age 82, of Mathews County, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Riverside Regional Medical Center, Newport News, after a lengthy and hard-fought illness. Mike, a native of Gloucester, was born on Sept. 17, 1940 to the late Maryus H. Hogg and Marie J. Hogg. He graduated from Gloucester High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree from St. Leo’s College. He was a Real Estate Assessor for James City County and Fairfax County, a Real Estate investor, an entrepreneur, and a waterman. He was a member of Union Baptist Church and of the Sons of the American Revolution (Williamsburg Chapter).

Mike loved to travel the world with his wife and enjoyed time with special friends who became family. In addition to his parents, brothers, Boyd A. Hogg, Lewis H. Hogge, and Nelson J. Hogge, and sisters, Roselle V. Williams and Catherine Hogge Smith Rinehart preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of almost 32 years, Carolyn F. Hogge of Mathews; a daughter, Christy Parrish (Clark) of Yorktown, Va.; a son, C. Garren Hester (Erin) of Hillsborough, N.C., and four grandchildren, Justin and Lacy Parrish of Yorktown and Seamus and Sadie Hester of Hillsborough. He is also survived by a nephew whom he considered a son, Dr. Lewis H Hogge (Dene) of Towson, Md., and other special nieces and nephews including Susie Rye (Randy), Adam Hogge, and Dennis Hogge. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 6, 2023, from 11-11:45 a.m. at Union Baptist Church, 9254 Guinea Road, Hayes, Va. 23072. A funeral service conducted by the Rev. Jared Berry will begin at noon followed by interment in Gloucester Point Cemetery.
