Maryus brush fire

Firefighters with the Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Inc., in top photo, battle a brush fire on Saturday at Maryus. According to AVFR spokesperson Robert Parlett, four acres of wood and brush burned, and the fire was brought under control relatively quickly. The fire department responded with two engines, two brush trucks, a tanker and a command vehicle. In bottom photo, firefighters Paul McNealy, left, and Lt. Jay Parlett are shown in a burned area. Members of the AVFR battled another brush fire in Guinea on Tuesday, March 22 that burned about 15 acres. Both fires were fueled by dry, windy conditions and low humidity.
