Mary McKie Bennett Richter of Hayes, passed away Jan. 7, 2015 at the age of 92.

Mary was born Jan. 18, 1922, in Mississippi to Joseph Sr. and Ruth McNair Bennett. In 1942, Mary graduated from Hinds Junior College in Raymond, Miss. After marrying in 1944 and the birth of their first daughter in 1946, the family made their home in Philadelphia, Pa.

Mary moved to Hayes in 1983 with her late husband Bill after his retiring from Pennsylvania Sugar Co. Mary faithfully volunteered and served in her church Providence Baptist for many years. She was also a member of D.A.R. 

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 58 years, Jacob William “Bill” Richter; parents; and three brothers, Joseph Bennett Jr., Robert Bennett and Charles Bennett.

She is survived by her four daughters, Phyllis Blount Brinson, Nancy Dyson, Judy Richter, and Jeanne Robidoux and husband Bill; grandchildren, Kevin Blount and wife Joan, Theresa Wilcox and husband David, Bill Dyson, Joe Dyson, Christine Ayers and husband David, Dennis Mitchell and wife Evelyn, Vanessa Dustin and husband Jason, and Katy Robinson and husband David; 11 great-grandchildren, Alyssa Sullivan, Kelsey Brennan, James, Dalton, Hunter and Austin Ayers, Alice Mitchell, Gavin and Adam Dustin, and Reese and Ava Robinson.

Graveside funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends were asked to assemble at the cemetery.

In Mary’s memory, contributions may be made to Men’s Fellowship Class, Providence Baptist Church, 3501 Providence Road, Hayes, Va. 23072.

The family would like to thank Mary’s daughter, Nancy, for her patience, love and devotion in caring for Mom over the last 11 years.
