MARY MCCARTHY

On Saturday, March 28, 2026, Mary McCarthy, age 79, of Gloucester, was called home to the Lord, leaving a huge hole in the hearts of all who knew and loved her—felt most deeply by her devoted husband of 61 years, Wayne; her children, Lisa Willis and Jim McCarthy, and her grandson, Justin Willis. Born to Mary Kathleen and Francis John Haggenmiller, she was the anchor and bond that held our family together. Mary was known for her boundless compassion and generosity. Her heavenly laugh was unmistakable. She had a love for crafts, animals, and her close friends, who were hallmarks of her life. Mary had a deep devotion to her church, St. Therese, and to her Catholic faith. Above all else, she loved her family. They were her world. She found her greatest joy simply being with them—supporting them, encouraging them, and walking beside them through every stage of life. She was the family’s anchor in difficult times and our greatest champion during the good. Her absence will be felt in every moment. She was our sunshine at the start of each day and our comfort in the evening. A loving wife, mother, friend, and relative—our Angel always. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, April 6, 2026, from 6-7 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home in Gloucester. The Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at St. Therese Catholic Church in Gloucester, Va., beginning at noon. The interment will follow at Rosewell Memorial Gardens in Hayes, Va.

Services under the direction of Hogg Funeral Home.
