MARY LOUISE LINDSAY LAWRENCE

Our earth angel, Mary Louise Lindsay Lawrence of Gloucester, was called home by her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014.

Lou was born on April 20, 1923 in Richmond, Va., to parents, Martha Ethel Smith Lindsay and Robert Hilton Lindsay.

After graduating from John Marshall High School, Lou graduated from St. Claire’s Medical Secretary School, Richmond.

She married Lewis Lorenzo Lawrence Sr. on Dec. 16, 1942.  Lou and Lewis raised five children and enjoyed traveling the U.S. and Canada.

Lou was an avid flower gardener and excellent Bridge player.

She enjoyed service in the Gloucester Woman’s Club and the North River Circle of The King’s Daughters. Lou served as a member of St. James Anglican Church, Gloucester.

“Nanny,” as affectionately called by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, loved her family, most of all.

We remember Mom as kind, caring, self-less, giving, thoughtful, unassuming, sharp-witted, generous and always helpful.

Lou is survived by her five children,  Lewis L. Lawrence Jr. (Mary), William L. Lawrence (Carol), Larry T. Lawrence (Carolyn), Suzanne L. Newbill, (Brad), and R. Timothy Lawrence. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at Bellamy United Methodist Church cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Building Fund of St. James Anglican Church, 6124 Abingdon Glebe Lane, Gloucester, Va. 23061.

Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory was in charge of services.
